We the People are the words that stand out from the entirety of the document we know as the United States Constitution. These words reflect a united population that is in charge of its own government. The Constitution is the supreme law of the United States. It was drafted in Philadelphia in the summer of 1787. George Washington presided over the Constitutional Convention, but James Madison is considered the "Father of the Constitution" because of his preeminent contributions to the document.
