A Norwegian, Sondre Norheim, is generally credited with bringing skiing into the modern era in the late 1800s by introducing a curved flexible ski as well as an improved ski binding. The Nordic style of skiing included cross-country skiing as well as ski jumping. The British invented the exciting fast descent style that is now called alpine skiing. Both styles enjoyed a popularity boost with the advent of the winter Olympics in the 1920s. Today, professionals and amateurs alike enjoy skiing at venues around the globe. This kit, adapted for cross stitch from a design by Michael Schwab, features an alpine skier. Michael Schwab is one of America's most recognized and best-loved graphic artists. His use of bold yet simple designs makes his work easily recognizable. For many years, The Posy Collection has been interpreting our major historical sites, prominent natural wonders, and selected graphic arts in cross stitch. This kit is a combination of their efforts aimed at "preserving our story in stitches."
